About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Jackson Heights, La Boina Roja is a Colombian restaurant that brings a rich tapestry of authentic flavors and hearty dishes to New York City’s diverse culinary scene. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that reflects the passionate spirit of Colombian cuisine — a perfect place for both casual meals and celebratory gatherings.

The menu here is a treasure trove of traditional favorites that will delight your senses with every bite. Start your culinary journey with popular appetizers like Morcilla y Chicharron or the refreshing Shrimp Salad. For main courses, La Boina Roja truly excels with its impressive lineup: the crispy  (fried snapper) boasts a delicate, flaky texture beautifully contrasted by its golden, perfectly seasoned crust, while the Super Bandeja La Boina Roja, a generous platter featuring round steak, pork chop, chicken breast, pork belly, and an egg, delivers a symphony of meats that satisfy both heartiness and variety cravings in one plate.

If you lean toward something more indulgent, the Entraña con Camarones — grilled skirt steak paired with succulent shrimp — offers a tender, smoky bite enriched by the rich creaminess of accompanying sauces. The Pechuga de Pollo en Salsa de Champiñones (chicken breast in mushroom sauce) has earned particular praise from loyal diners for its perfectly balanced flavors and tender texture, drawing returning customers who claim it’s unlike any other chicken dish in New York.

Diners looking for more traditional Colombian home-style comfort will be soothed by dishes like Sancocho, a hearty fish or meat soup with deep, earthy undertones, or the Bandeja a lo Pobre, a “Poor Man’s Platter” of pork chop, pork belly, and egg – a meal that is as satisfying as its name suggests.

Accompanying these mains are flavorful sides like creamy Arroz con Leche (rice pudding) and silky Flan de Leche, which provide the perfect sweet note to round off your dining experience.

Beyond the food, the service at La Boina Roja stands out for its warmth and attentiveness. Regulars rave about the knowledgeable and friendly staff, with some customers particularly noting the exceptional service by the head waitress, Maria Salazar. One returning diner even highlighted how their steak, ordered well-done, arrived just as requested — a testament to the kitchen’s dedication to guest preferences.

Prices are very reasonable given the generous portion sizes. Many report that a single entrée is enough to share, so coming hungry is highly recommended. The lunch specials, especially on Fridays, are a real gem and often prompt locals to arrive early to secure their spot before the best dishes run out.

Whether you are craving the bold and smoky flavors of grilled meats, the comforting warmth of home-cooked soups, or the elegance of a perfectly prepared filet mignon, La Boina Roja delivers an authentic Colombian dining experience that awakens your palate and leaves you eager to return. It’s a gem in Jackson Heights that both locals and visitors will appreciate for its genuine hospitality and passionate celebration of Colombian gastronomy.

My second time trying this place, food portions are big, we ordered; one appetizer and one entry, it was enough for two. About $80 to $100 per person. Steak tastes fresh though ordered temperature both times was not accurate. I prefere medium well but we got a medium rare, however I am not picky, it still was delicious, maybe a tad more seasoning would hit the spot. SERVICE: Ok FOOD: A solid 4 stars, Tastes fresh, shrimps where cooked PERFECTLY, I am not a big fan of tostones (flied plantain flats,) HOWEVER their tostones, I could eat all day. They are THE BEST tostones i have ever tried. They Guacamole is really good, and goes perfect with the tostones. ATMOSPHERE: Relaxed, welcoming, some light music might go very well.

The chicken in mushroom sauce dish is the best here! I have yet to try something similar anywhere else in New York City! One of the only dishes I get here exclusively. Try it! Highly recommend.

An excellent steak house and Columbia dishes- tasty food with reasonable price and friendly and fast waitress service. There are many bargains combo dishes in low $20s, and they come with salad, various types of French fries or potato, rice with or without beans.

My lunch at La Boina Roja was by far the best Colombian experience I’ve had so far, this Filet Mignon accompanied by the well-presented mashed potatoes was spectacular! The originality and the flavor, as well as the service by none other than the head waitress Maria Salazar. I ordered my meat well done, and as expected was pleased! I am definitely coming back here to eat a thousand times!

Always an enjoyable experience! The lunch specials are a staple must try! The food is always great here. Bren coming here for the last 8 years and never disappointed. Come here hungry and enjoy these great portions of food. The prices are great for the portions! For lunch specials get there early enough or it may be pot scrapings. Menu online! Great for families or dining alone. Staff is friendly and tentative.
